Pre- natal exercise

Advantages of exercising during pregnancy:

  • Increases energy levels and decreased fatigue

  • Increases feelings of happiness and boosts mood

  • Helps improve sleep quality

  • Decreases risk of complications such as varicose veins, constipation and fatigue

  • Maintains fitness levels and helps control weight gain

  • Whist staying active does not guarantee a smooth, fast labour, mums who continue to exercise during pregnancy tend to have a shorter labour with less chance of interventions such as c-sections or assisted deliveries with forceps or ventouse.

  • Faster post-natal recovery

Whilst the advantages of training during pregnancy are clear, there are physiological adaptions that occur during pregnancy which may affect your normal fitness regime.  Pregnancy is a time of great physical and emotional changes which can leave women feeling vulnerable and confused on the best way of continuing to exercise.

I am experienced and qualified in training women throughout pregnancy so can work with you allowing you to continue exercising at an appropriate level for your pregnancy, fitness level & health.   My one-one personal training sessions during pregnancy maintain fitness levels  in a controlled and reassuring environment.  Sessions will change and adapt as your pregnancy progresses whilst still be challenging & can take place at a time and location convenient to you in South Norfolk or Norwich, your home, garden or gym.  Having two young children of my own I understand the emotional and physical changes which occor during pregnancy and can support you with continued advice and support.

Please contact your midwife or GP if you have any doubt or before exercising if you have do not have a routine pregnancy or have pre-existing health conditions.

Post-natal exercise

With the correct support and guidance along with an appropriate and graduated exercise exercise & nutrition plan (& some hard work!), it IS possible to regain your pre-natal confidence, fitness and figure after having a baby. Contact me to find out how to start your journey with a free, no-obligation chat and assessment.

It is important to wait until your 6-8 week post-natal check before commencing post-natal exercise however gentle abdominal/pelvic exercises and pelvic floor exercises (kegels) can be started immediately after delivery.  For more information refer to the NHS leaflet in your post-natal 'Bounty' pack.  Women who have undergone a c-section should wait 12 weeks and check with a healthcare professional before beginning exercise.
